The Varnham Torts Moot - Semester 1

UTS LAW STUDENTS' SOCIETY

presents

The Varnham Torts Moot 2012

Please note, the Varnham Torts Moot is only available to students in Semester 1 of each academic year.

What is the Varnham Torts Moot?
The Varnham Torts Moot differs from the standard LSS Junior and Senior Mooting competitions in that it only involves a single moot problem for the entire competition, and that problem is focussed on Torts. Subject to the few eligibility requirements stated below, the competition is open to all students, regardless of mooting experience. The competition is also much shorter, with oral submissions being run over the course of a week.

Am I eligible?
Subject to the following requirements, the competitions are open to all students, regardless of whether you have any mooting experience

1) Interested students must be paid members of the LSS
2) Students must be completing or have completed the subject ‘Torts'.

Students must register in teams of two. No individual registrations will be considered.

The Varnham Torts Moot
The Varnham Torts Moot will also act as a valuable tool for the university to determine who will compete in the Shine Lawyers Torts Moot, which takes place in August at the Queensland University of Technology.

Is participation compulsory for selection to an intervarsity team?

Participation in the Varnham Torts Moot will be beneficial to all students who are interested in applying for the intervarsity team. Competing is not, however, compulsory.

What is involved?
As a very basic outline, students will be required to prepare all of the following:
- Outline of arguments for the Applicant - no more than 3 pages in length
- Outline of arguments for the Respondent - no more than 3 pages in length
- Oral submissions for both the Applicant and Respondent.

Where do I sign up?
Registrations have now closed.

What if I want to be involved, but I don't want to moot just yet?
That's OK! We require bailiffs/timekeepers for many of the rounds. If you are interested in volunteering, please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
