For people interested in becoming involved with the UTS Law Students’ Society, volunteering to be a time-keeper, witness and/ or client for our internal legal competitions is a fantastic way to start. Time-keepers are required in all the competitions. Their role is to keep the time and notify the judge and competitors when certain periods of time have lapsed.
Volunteer witnesses are required for the Witness Examination competition. Their role is to familiarize themselves with a brief statement of facts in order to act as a witness for one of the competing counsel. During the competition, witnesses will be called to the witness stand to be examined and cross-examined by their counsel and opposing counsel respectively.
Volunteer clients are required for the Client Interviewing competition. Their role is to familiarise themselves with a brief statement of facts in order to act as a client for one of the competing teams. During the competition, clients will be questioned by their team of lawyers and should respond to their questions according to the facts they have been given.
Volunteering as a time-keeper, witnesses and/ or client is also a great opportunity to have a first hand view at how the competitions are run. If you would like to volunteer for one of these roles please contact Nicole Meyer - Vice President
