Social Justice Opportunities

The Law Students' Society has prepared a database of social justice opportunities for UTS law students. This database will be expanded throughout the year, however for the moment there are contact details and descriptions for a range of:
  • community legal centres;
  • ombudsmen;
  • commissions;
  • government departments; and
  • Aboriginal Legal Service offices.

Community legal centres, outreach services, NGOs and government departments all have excellent, though little known, internships, volunteer opportunities and cadetships for students interested in justice and law.
Most of these placements however are for students in their third year and beyond. To ensure that first year law students are given the chance to demonstrate their social justice conscience, the Equity Portfolio has been working closely with the Australian Red Cross, The Law Kitchen, the Australian Human Rights Commission and Sydney Homeless Connect to create exciting new legal roles for students in all years of their degree

These opportunities are a great way to gain hands-on experience, give back to the community and gain accreditation for the Brennan Justice and Leadership Program.

To become involved in the further development of the database of social justice opportunities or any other outreach work, please join our Advocacy and Human Rights Committee (AHRC), which currently comprises of over 40 students, by emailing the Equity Director, Tim Broune, at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
